United Rentals (North America) is one of the largest equipment rental companies in the United States, with an integrated network of more than 750 rental locations in 48 states, nearly 10 Canadian provinces and Mexico. The company's approximately 13,200 employees serve construction and industrial customers, utilities, municipalities and homeowners. It offers for rent more than 600 different types of equipment with a total original cost of nearly $4 billion. The company was established in 1997. Its customer base is a diverse mix of independent contractors, construction companies, federal and state government agencies, municipalities, manufacturers, utilities and property superintendents. The largest sector of its market, private nonresidential construction, represents nearly 65 percent of its total revenues, while industrial construction accounts for approximately 15 percent, followed by homeowner and traffic control that accounts for less than 10 percent.
