This pet store reminds me of the traditional pet store I grew up with. It's a real neighborhood full line store. I see a lot of pet stores of all kinds but this type of store with real personality are few and far between. They have about 1300 gals of freshwater aquariums, a big reptile selection and even an interesting display of rocks and fossils. The store also offers Vet days and tours for school children. It's a fun visit with friendly owners.



Industry Review

I've lived in San Diego since 1976, and discovered Animal House in my neighborhood when my animal obsessed housemate brought home a male pet rat in one of those plastic cages that you can add tubes to, and create a whole maze. He didn't get him at Animal House. Anyway, the tubes were great, we made about three stories worth, buying more every payday. Then the male rat had babies, lots of them. Still cool, we just added on a few rooms. But eventually, our 3 six-foot boa constrictors, which we were feeding thawed out rat-sicles from Animal House, started costing more than we could afford. Oh yeah, by then we were also "growing" our own rats, actually they were overgrowing one whole room of our 2-bedroom apartment. The folks at Animal House helped us take care of all of our animals, listened to all our questions, bought our overstock of rats until we just lost control of the whole menagerie. We had also acquired 3-4 pair of cockatiels from friends. They are all in better homes. Thanks, AH
