Everything was smooth that day for the outpatient procedure. The billing office had an estimate and even gave a discount if you paid up front. Procedure went exactly as planned, no surprises. But when I got the final bill it was double the estimate that was given. I have never had an estimate double. Most other hospitals I have worked with will honor the discount for added charges, but not St Marks. They only estimated 1/2 the cost and then billed the rest later. It wasn't our insurance company, because it was 20% coinsurance. The hospital just didn't include all the charges in the estimate. So plan on paying double what you are told. Again the day of the procedure was great, everyone was great. Just after the fact they will double your bill.
