- Swedish MassageSwedish Massage is a very gentle type of massage therapy that involves soft, long, kneading strokes along with light, rhythmic, tapping strokes to the topmost layers of the muscles. It also is combined with movement of the joints. Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage. It is great for relieving muscle tension, relaxation and may even be energizing to the body. It can also be helpful following an injury.
- Deep Tissue MassageDeep Tissue Therapy is a type of massage that uses slow, deliberate strokes while focusing pressure on certain layers of muscles, tendons or other soft tissues deep under the skin. It gives attention to certain painful, stiff “trouble spots” in the body and is a great choice for helping to relieve chronic tension and pain. Deep Tissue Massage is also good for helping with muscle injuries, such as back strain and sprain.
- Sports MassageSport Massage is a specialized type of massage developed for athletes. It focuses on the muscles used in a particular sport. It can be done before, during or after sporting events depending on the intended purpose. You may wish to use it to promote flexibility and help prevent injuries before exercise or after exercise to aid in healing injuries such as muscles strains and sprains.
- Hot Stone MassageWarmed stones are placed on certain areas of the body, such as Acupressure points. These stones may be left in place for a period of time or used as massage tools. Hot Stone Massage can be used alone or along with other massage techniques to provide a very soothing and relaxing therapy as the stones transmit heat from the surface of the skin to the deep tissues of the body. When the heated stones are placed on the Acupressure points, it can help to energize the chi, vital force in the body.
- Prenatal MassageDuring pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. Pregnancy Massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain. It may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited. Our therapists use specially designed massage pillows that assist you in getting into the most comfortable positions during your relaxing massage.
- Chair MassageChair Massage is best described as a “quick massage” that is usually done in 10-15 minutes. It is done while the patient is seated on a massage chair fully clothed. It is great for people who may not have time for a full hour massage due to their busy schedule on a particular day. A chair massage is a good way to get the benefits of massage when you may have time constraints. It is usually done on the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands. - Spinal AdjustmentsYour chiropractor will not only detect and minimize VSC, but, once the spinal bones are back in their normal position and have regained their natural function, he or she will try to prevent the problem from recurring. Chiropractic treatments, particularly spinal adjustments, can be used to treat VSC and ward off its associated symptoms.
- SubluxationWhat truly differentiates doctors of chiropractic from any other healthcare professionals is the fact that chiropractors are the only professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat what are called spinal subluxations. The word 'subluxation' comes from the Latin words meaning 'to dislocate' (luxare) and 'somewhat or slightly' (sub). So the term 'vertebral subluxation' literally means a slight dislocation (misalignment) of the bones in the spine. Although this term was adequate in the 1800s when much was still misunderstood about the human body, today the word 'subluxation' has changed in meaning to capture the complex of neurological, structural, and functional changes that occur when a bone is 'out of place.' For this reason chiropractors usually refer to subluxations of the spine as the "Vertebral Subluxation Complex", or "VSC" for short.
- Manipulation TherapyManual manipulation of the spine and other joints in the body have been around for a long time.
