Donnie's Homespun is so unique, it seems straight out of San Francisco or someplace like that. The decor is fun and funky! The food is always wonderful, with lots of vegetarian or vegan options, and hard-to-find goodies like falafel! It is one of the original establishments that is now the hip funky restaurant/bar atmosphere at Main & Oakland, near Millikin U. And having the outside patio to eat in is just an added bonus! Weekend evenings offer live music as well. Go!

Bad first experience, but since then things improved vastly. Good pie, good sandwiches, microbrews check, and other people have said "feels urban". Plus a sweet Ween poster right as you walk in. Don't burn it, try it.

There are several locally-owned businesses in Decatur, IL that seem to draw on the ambience of other cities. Like the Decanter (a wonderful wine shop), Porter's (A high-end steak house), and Katz (an amazing martini bar), Donnie's Homespun pizza seems to provide an atmosphere that pulls one away from the here and now, whether the here and now is filled with financial worries, or family concerns, or whatever.



Donnie's Homespun Pizza feels like a store front cafe in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or near the University of Vermont. You want to go with the knowledge that you are going to get fresh food with great ingredients, but you probably aren't going to be sitting and lounging in the very small dining area. This is a great place to call ahead to place an order (if you happen to have the menu), pick up the food (after looking at the great/crazy art on the walls), and go have a picnic somewhere.



Donnie's is more than just a pizza place with unique topping options (such as curry, spinach, etc); it is the only place in Decatur that one can get fresh smoothies and juices. You can order a great smoothie (with yogurt or with vegan options such as coconut milk or soy milk) with the added bonus of B-12, spirulina, beta carotene, or goji berries. You could also get juice shots with some of the same.



The sandwiches and pitas are amazing---a ton of food for a great price. As a vegan, I loved the curry with bean curd and chick peas. The falafel is also great (it may be the only place one can get falafel in Decatur, as well). Carnivores also won't go away hungry---Donnie's Homespun Pizza has some great meat-laden sandwiches, pitas, and pizzas.
