The Federal Correctional Institution is a part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, which is administered by the Department of Justice. The facility houses low-security female offenders and also has an adjacent satellite camp that accommodates minimum-security female offenders. It is located in southwestern Connecticut. Established in 1930, the Federal Bureau of Prisons is responsible for providing progressive and humane care for inmates. The bureau consists of more than 100 institutions, as well as regional, central and community correction offices. It provides custody and care to over 200,000 federal offenders. The Federal Bureau of Prisons assists in the prevention of future criminal activities by encouraging inmates to participate in a range of programs that assists in reducing recidivism.
